Our History

Derrick Maxwell Sr. is owner and manager of Personal Touch Boutique and he is familiar with hard work. He went from selling cassettes, cd’s, and ESTL Baseball Caps and T-Shirts from his car and van to a self- built trailer made from an old train boxcar. With his never quit, never give up attitude, 29 years later Personal Touch Boutique has evolved and thrived, it occupies 4200 sq. feet of retail space at 1958 State Street in East St. Louis. Il.

Personal Touch Boutique is a family owned and operated business. Derrick who regularly works besides his wife and co-owner Bernita feel that customer satisfaction is the key. We listen to the customer and work hard to supply their need. People want a quality product at a good price. It is imperative that we provide what the market demands. Special orders, Lay-Aways, and providing same day alterations if needed. We realize that there are other options and the competition for the consumer dollar is fierce. There have been some tough times in our attempt to be leaders and torch bearers in our community but thru a fire and what some named the backhoe bandit, our faith and resolve remains strong. We believe that “Tough Times never last but Tough people do!”

We choose to build, motivate, and inspire by offering scholarships to graduating high school Students and mentor those who would like to start businesses in our community. We not only Work in East St. Louis, but we live East St. Louis. Our roots are here and we know that investment in our community begins with us!
